Maria and Israel's Wedding

On September 14th our friends Maria and Israel got married. Maria decided to just get officially married at City Hall, and then have a big reception later that same evening. I met her downtown in the morning to photograph her getting officially married; as well as to get some family portraits.

Their reception was held later in the evening at a banquet hall. I was there to capture getting ready photos, some decor details, candids of friends and family, as well as dancing of course.

Maria did all the centerpieces and decor herself, her color scheme was red, white and black.

The bouquet was red roses and baby's breath with a single white rose in the center.

Although Maria opted to have a very budget-friendly wedding, her one splurge was her gown. According to her, it was definitely worth it. Seeing her in the dress, you could see why. This dress was absolutely perfect for her, it fit her personality and she looked gorgeous in it.

Maria's mother helped her with her garter, which of course was also red.

Maria's maid of honor helping with her veil.

Maria had a very large bridal party, but some of them arrived earlier than others.
Her maid of honor is in the center, with a couple bridesmaids on either side. They all picked their own dresses, they just all had to be bright red - except for the maid of honor of course.

Since we didn't do portraits before her reception, we also didn't do an official first look, but I did manage to capture the look of her now-husband when he saw Maria in her dress for the first time.

For the first hour of dancing they had a live mariachi band perform.

First dance.

After the first dance they took turns dancing with other people.

It's a Mexican tradition to throw money while the couple is dancing.

Another tradition is to have the bride and groom stand on chairs with bridal party members holding them up, and the bride and groom hold a white cloth between them [or hold hands] while guests run under. The guests running through and around also knock into them and try to knock them off their chairs. First went all the single female guests.

The bouquet toss.

Next went all the single male guests.

The removal of the garter.

Followed by the garter toss.

Then dancing the night away...
